GMA slams opposition over smear campaign

SAN CARLOS CITY - President Macapagal - Arroyo yesterday accused the opposition of the conducting smear campaign against her 
administration by implicating her husband and brother-in-law in the "jueteng" scandal in a bid to "undermine my ability to govern".

Speaking at the inauguration of the national fuel ethanol program in this city hours before the Senate began its inquiry into the illegal 
numbers racket, the President made the strongest statement yet defending First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, her son Pampanga Rep. Juan 
Miguel Arroyo and her brother-in-law Rep. Ignacio Arroyo.

Ms Arroyo was outlining the challenges facing her administration now that she embarked in the second phase of her economic reform program 
when she referred to the jueteng allegations against her family.
